How to prepare for Your Job interview

It isn’t easy going for a Job interview for most of us. Especially if it is your first job interview or if you haven‘t had any for a while, since you‘ve been employed for many years and just recently quit your job or worse - have been fired because of recent economic situation and widely spread cut offs practice. As you know – making a good first impression isn‘t easy task, when nerves are getting best of you. But don‘t worry, there are some basic techniques how can you prepare yourself for this intimidating challenge.

It is Mission Impossible to make up for a bad first impression, so if you are not Ethan Hunt or Tom Cruise himself, make sure that your future boss will see neat, polite and interested in the offered job position future employee. For men it is highly recommended to wear nice slacks with a suit jacket and tie. If you are suits guy, then you should consider also very nice option of nice button up, long sleeve shirt with a matching tie. Also very important to remove or trim very neatly your facial hair, that should be washed and combed too. Dress code for the ladies is very simple too – nice dress or pant suit. Make sure that you do not wear any clothing that will show too much of your skin or that is not appropriate for an office. Even though you may have a previous job listed that was many years ago, the interviewer may ask you to explain what you did at that job and your are responsible for providing an answer. That’s why studying your resume and preparing your answers based on that is crucial too. Besides, your resume is all the interviewer has to go by in order to get to know you.

Practice your answers to the most common interview questions. You should always be able to answer “Tell me about yourself” and “Why do you think you would be great for this job?” The employer doesn’t know, so it’s up to you to sell it.

Another important thing is to show that you know the company and offering job position very well. Employer values initiative from the future employees and it makes a very strong impression on them if someone already knows about their company. This shows a huge respect to the job and company which part you are going to become. Your questions should reveal your current knowledge about the company, but at the same time to show what are you interested on that topic too. For example “I know you opened your offices abroad last year in Central and East London, how is the company doing there?” It shows not only your knowledge and interest, but also lets the employer to brag about that (and who doesn’t like to show off?).

Don’t be late! That’s why make sure you print out the directions to the interview much earlier and take enough time to get there and anticipate traffic. Also know that It’s ok to be up to 10 minutes early, but no more than that. Otherwise, the interviewer may not be ready for you.
